The problems you are running into are into the lack of support for non-free and proprietary media formats and programming languages in Debian. The best thing to do is to educate the producers of this media to produce media and programmers that the users of free software can use. Should you choose to go ahead and install non-free software, you should be able to install Flash right into Mozilla if you use Firefox. Firefox should direct you to the appropriate page and you can then just follow the directions. For installing the J2RE and the MPlayer (a media player) you should look at this website: http://www.apt-get.org/ It contains a long list of third-party repositories that ship software that Debian cannot or will not.
